OK, I want to preface this by saying that I love me a good fitness class. It's really the only thing I go to, unless I'm running on the treadmill or outside. I'm not really the type to go work a bunch of weight machines and I've spent so many hours on the elliptical that I literally can't even any more.
However, just like Sesame Street told you about the people in your neighborhood, these are the people in your group fitness class and they are special.
1. THAT ANNOYING GUY
I've mentioned the constantly talking, thinks he's hella funny, but he's really just annoying gym guy. Please respect the rest of the people in the class, you want to have social hour, do it outside. Go to a juice bar or have some coffee or a bagel and chat, I don't care, just let the people who want to have a good work out do it in peace,
2. The "I look prefect after class" chick/dude.
When I got to class, I go there to sweat. I want to get my heart rate up, break a sweat and leave smelly. I turn into a red faced sweaty mess who needs a 1985 Richard Simmons sweat band to keep it from dripping in my eyes. It's delightful. But there are those people who never break a sweat! I just don't understand, how, how does this happen, I see you moving, you seem to be working out, but you don't leave class with your mascara running down your face like a horrible Alice Cooper impersonator. (this might have been me)
Then I like to go to Whole Foods, where everyone smells earthy and is in gym clothes
3. The guy who takes the class really, really seriously.
We've all met this guy. I remember 2 of them in particular, there was a Pump class where someone wore a giant, leather Hulk Hogan-esque weight belt. Look, I've got no problem with a Hulk Hogan weight belt, I totally need one for my Hogan Halloween costume this year. Body Pump is suppsed to be lower weight and high repetition. he had a decent. not over the top, amount of weight on his bar, but at the end of every song or every break, he dropped his weights and grunted loudly. Brah, come on....
Last week in Combat, one of the tracks was "King Foo Fighting" and the guy behind me really tought he was kung foo fighting. He was super serious and there were a few times I felt the wind from his foot at the back of my head, he was that close to me. Taking class seriously is great, but maybe dial it back a notch. :)
4. The person who I'm convinced is going to really hurt themselves.
Most instructors do a great job correcting people's form and giving solid directions, but there are some folks who are just so far out of the realm, that I;m genuinely concerned that they're going to hurt themselves. Lordy, please be careful I'm not great in medical emergencies. I panic and if you hurt yourself I can't help you.
5. The I'm going to give you stink eye for being in my "spot" chick.
Well, it's definitely not Wednesday. I had a meeting at NC State Tuesday night and by the time I got home, a post just wasn't happening. Instead we get.... Weekly Weigh-in...Thursday? I'll just go with it. Welp, I had a gain. It was a for reals gain this time and I got back the .8 I lost the week before. More than anything I hate it when that happens because it's like three weeks of no progress.
I'm not terribly surprised, and I actually think that the stupid MenoCare supplements messed with me. Then there was the great eating out of the week as well. I think we ate out all meals on Saturday, then dinner out on Thursday and Friday. I got the right supplements on Saturday morning after the gym and Sunday afternoon I weighed myself in the afternoon with some clothes on and had lost the .8. Wednesday morning I weighed sans clothing as soon as I woke up and I was 5 pounds less than my Jenny weigh. In the past my home scale was pretty close to Jenny scale, so I'm hopeful when I go on Friday morning after only 6 days. I'll see a good number.
Workouts - (Last Week)
Saturday - Kev and I went to breakfast instead
Sunday - Run and Body Flow
Monday- Body Pump
Tuesday - Nope
Wednesday - Body Combat
Thursday - Sausage Party
Friday - Newsies
I was tired and didn't have much energy last week. (I still blame the supplements) but I did make it to the gym 3 times that week. I've already been 4 times this week, even though today might be my last before heading out of town.
What I'm Eating this Week / Cheats
We went to breakfast at Raleigh Times on Saturday morning and I had the eggs that had bacon in them I probably ate 1/3 to 1/2 of it, the bacon was Kev's to go with the French Toast you see in the background. beautiful toast, not soaked in egg long enough though
The coffee was delish though.
Since we were in downtown Raleigh I made Kevin stop at Boulted Bread, which is just insane and amazing. He got some treat and a loaf of bread and I got this custard thing.
You were so good....
Picture
I went dress hunting this week and I swear I was everywhere, only to realize that I'm firmly in between sizes. I found this hella amazing dress at Belk but it was just too clingy in the hips and gut. If I weighted 7 pounds less you'd be mine.
I might go back and get it and let it sit for a few weeks.
I didn't have a "great" picture from this week instead, here's this one. My shoes are awesome though.
Alright, someone wish me luck Friday morning for a good weigh in! I'm going in a day early since I'm heading out of town for our anniversary get-away. A good weigh-in would give me some cushion for the eating that's about to happen.
For the last few months I've been taking a great supplement from Himalaya. It's called StressCare and it's awesome.
This isn't a sponsored post, Himalaya has no idea who I am or that I take their stuff, I just really like it. I got my first bottle at Whole Foods on a whim and it was one of the best things I've ever bought.
Everyone has stress in their life. Sometimes we have more, sometimes we have less, but there's a lot of stress all around us. Stress can absolutely affect weight loss, especially mine, and I wanted to see if there was something that would help keep my stress levels down and support my adrenal glands. I'm not really a fan of doctors shoving pills down my throat. I know there are many people who have been helped immensely by medication, but I'd like to try some other, more holistic methods before taking that step, Enter StressCare.
In the last few months I've definitely felt less stressed and have been really quite chill about all sorts of things that would have usually caused me to freak out. Maybe it's age and wisdom, or maybe it's the pills. IDK, but I'll take it!
Well, I was running low and was lazy and instead of driving to Whole Foods, I decided to order them off Amazon instead. I love Amazon like no one's business. Amazon Prime is my BFF and in Raleigh we have PrimeNow which lets me order La Croix, a shower curtain liner and the Harry Potter book and have them delivered to my house in 2 hours. I love Amazon and they've never done me wrong.
Well, the last 2 weeks I noticed I was feeling more stressed, things were bothering me more and I just felt low on energy. I figured it was normal. Life happens.
Well Saturday morning I had my supplements lined up and I went to open my StressCare and saw THIS!
DAFAQ?!?!?! I'D BEEN TAKING THIS FOR TWO WEEKS!
Yes, I'd bee taking MenoCare for 2 weeks. The bottles looked similar, the pills looked similar and I'm apparently not very observant.
According to the bottle it helps with sleeplessness, hence the vague sense of sleepiness I'd been feeling recently.
Thanks Amazon. I'll be sending these back. My uterus is just fine.
*I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and got a new bottle of StressCare. It might be in my mind, but I've felt far less stressed the last 2 days and have had plenty of energy.
Me again. The last 2 weeks have been pretty crazy with work and other commitments and the blog thing just wasn't happening. I was feeling really stressed about some life things (which I realized why on Saturday, more on that in another post) and this just fell by the way-side. It's not the first time and probably won't be the last. So is life.
So, what happened this weekend? I'm gonna take it all the way back to Thursday. Kev and I had plans Thursday and Friday night since he was heading out of town on Saturday morning. Now, before anyone scolds me for revealing that he's gone, my brother is staying with us for a while and my dog isn't a fan of people she doesn't know. I'll be just fine.
Thursday we went to see Sausage Party. It's a naughty, naughty movie and I have the sense of humor of a 13 year old boy and I thought it was hysterical. My favorite part was when the sausage recreated a scene from Meatloaf's "I'd do anything for love" video. I was CRYING. I might have been the only person in the theater who got the reference and it was spectacular.
Friday I found the video on-line and seriously, wtf is going on? Is he the Beast, is he a vampire, why is there an investigator, why is that chick levitating? So many explosions. Then I discovered it was directed by a young Michael Bay. Michael Bay, Meatloaf, Steinman, it's a trifecta of epic proportions.
If you have any idea what's going on, please let me know.
Friday was a regular work day and I left a little early because we had tickets at DPAC to see Newsies!
Before the show we went to Vin Rouge for some dinner. For the first time in perhaps, ever, I didn't order the tartare OR a cosmo. I had to weigh in the next morning dontcha know.
Instead I had the duck confit salad. It was tasty, but tartare and frites it was not.
Off to the show!
I knew nothing about Newsies. Nada. I knew it was a Disney movie and about the newspaper. I was pretty sure there was a fight. I turned out to be right on all counts.
It was a great production, The story was pretty basic, it had some good songs (Hamilton it was not) but the dancing, OMG the DANCING was AMAZING! So talented. It was highly entertaining,
Saturday morning Kev headed off on his road trip and I went to my Jenny appointment. It wasn't awesome and I was up .8 pounds. I ate out the last 2 nights, only worked out 3 times and I had far too many bites and tastes of things I didn't account for. It happens. I hate it, but it happens. I weighed myself this afternoon and I'd already lost the .8 I was up yesterday morning. I knew it was fake.
Oh, and Jenny debuted 5 new meals Saturday. Sadly they were in the store, but not in the computer, so I couldn't buy them. My consultant felt bad for me and gave me a free veggie fritata.
Then I went to Body Pump. I've talked before about the annoying old dude who attends that class, well Saturday he was in full on annoying mode. He wanders around during the class, shouts at people in the middle of songs, yells at the instructor and he thinks it's funny. There was a point in the next to the last track (abs) when he put his stuff away and walked over and was harassing a lady in the back of the room.
I swear, if he was still in the class or outside when it was finished, I was going to say something to him. I get that this is your social time but your antics are distracting and it affects the experience for the rest of the people in the room. You aren't funny and it pisses off the people who are there to get a good workout. I like the class, I want to go to it, but I CAN'T STAND that guy.
After class I ran over to Whole Foods, then to Vitamin Shoppe to get some supplements (Amazon sent the wrong ones), then it was time to shower and go to the outlet mall!
Yes, while Kev is away I always go to the outlet mall. It's my treat to be able to walk around and look at stuff for hours. :)
I've been looking for a dress to wear for our anniversary dinner next weekend. It's our 10th and we'll be in Washington DC (brother and dog still here, don't try and rob me) We're going to the Prime Rib and it's jacket required so I needed something nice. I'm wanted to base it around these shoes I got from Sole Society
I know, right???
I've been to several malls, Nordstrom, ordered a dress online (nope) and couldn't find anything, I was hopeful the outlet mall would be the answer and sadly, it was not. I actually left with 0 purchases and I'm pretty sure this is the first time in my life that has ever happened.
I'm pretty solidly in between sizes in most places. Mediums button, but unattractively and Larges are a little bit too big. Believe me, if that wasn't the case, I would have spent quite a but at Express. EVERYTHING WAS 50% OFF!
Large on the left, medium on the right
I was bummed and took my sadness to Trader Joe's in Chapel Hill on the way home. It was close to what I might call the 7th circle of hell. Full of people wandering aimlessly and constantly in my way. I came in annoyed to start and that didn't help. This is why I stay in Raleigh...
I picked up a watermelon and it was full of disappointment just like the rest of the day had been.
You failed me.
After I got home, I sulked for a while and decided to try Clothes Mentor, which is a consignment store. I didn't find a dinner dress, but I did pick up a grey and white stripped dress that will be a great transition piece for the fall. Stripes, they're my kryptonite.
I woke up Sunday determined to have a better day. I started with my coffee and some blueberry pancakes.
I drove a bit out of my way to a Body Pump class at the gym near my work. It started at 1135am and I wanted to get it out of the way instead of going to my usual 230pm class. It was good, I actually did a back bend for the first time in maybe 15 years.
Kev said I should go to the place "where all the stores are far away". I assumed he meant Cameron Village, so there I went. My first stop was Fifi's Consignment Shop. SUCCESS!!!
They do this thing where anything that's been in the store greater than 30 days is 50% off. That made this dress $12!!! Shopping win!! (And I didn't do my hair all weekend.)
I also found dress at Ivy and Leo that's another great fall transition piece.
I brought a Jenny Craig tuna salad kit in case I got hungry for lunch and I sat on a bench and ate it. Look, when you had a bad weigh in, you give 0 Fs if someone wants to judge you for eating a tuna cracker on a bench.
I stopped at Tin Roof Teas and got some tea that has gummy bears in it, and I found this!
After my ghetto work iced coffee last week, this looked like a much better alternative.
I also picked up a suitcase that I can actually use as a carry-on instead of always having to check my luggage.
I'm flying to DC and Kev is going to meet me there. I fly at few times a year and I'm tired of always checking my bag. I finally adulted and got something I could actually carry. And it's purple paisley.
On my way home I stopped and got groceries and ANOTHER watermelon.
Dinner was JC turkey plus more green beans. The turkey dinner is quite good but it wrecks havoc with my food touching issues.
There's nothing I can do to separate the stuffing from the potato from the turkey. I just need my food to be in compartments.

Oh hey, I was supposed to post my weekly weigh-in last week, then I didn't. -ish got really crazy at work and has stayed crazy. Ah, the joys of an acquisition. I've done a decent job of getting my workouts in and my food has been fine. Almost 2 pounds in two weeks. As long as the scale keeps going down, I'm happy. I'm starting to feel like I have a bigger loss coming up, like a 2 pounder or something, Maybe this will be the week?
Workouts - (Last Week)
Saturday - Body Pump
Sunday - Run and Body Flow
Monday- Last minute work dinner
Tuesday - CAB meeting at NC State
Wednesday - OMG I was tired and got my nails done instead
Thursday - Body Pump
Friday - Body Combat
I'll be honest, I don't remember exactly what I did the week before. I did workout 3 times, I did some Body Pump, I ran, did some Combat classes, the regular stuff. I did notice this week that I had made some gains in the lower ab department. Not like I could see them, because that's probably never gonna happen, but I was able to do a lot of lower ab exercises that I couldn't before. It's actually a really good thing, that's the area that needs the most work because my lower ab and core is what needs to be stronger to help with my back. Basically if I can strengthen my lower abs and core, it keeps my pelvis, sciatic joint and hips from getting out of alignment which is the cause of my back injuries. Yay for progress!
My weekly recap from Apple Watch. I burned 4735 "extra" calories which should have been more than a .8 pound loss. It'll happen though.
What I'm eating this week
Twice a week at work we have catered lunch and I never eat it. Sometimes if I know there's going to be salad, I plan my Jenny meal accordingly because I really like having extra veggies on my turkey burger or cheese burger. This day we had a giant salad from Zoe's Kitchen and I snagged some lettuce, cucumbers, green peppers and a few olives. It was Insta-worthy.

Week 14 Picture
Week 7 vs Week 15 pictures
I was pretty pleased with this comparison. That's exactly 2 months between the pictures. June to August. There's only a 10-ish difference between the 2 pictures. It's crazy how just 10 pounds can make such a big difference. I know I have muscle under all of the fat, now to get them to come out!
Obligatory gym selfie.
I think this picture is pretty crazy, it's me and Kev 8 years ago on a cruise. This is me never working out and being pretty sedentary. It shows how a good workout regimen can really help your body composition. Can someone make sure I never cut my hair in that style again? Mkay, thanks.
That's all for me! I'll keep chugging along and hopefully have another loss this Saturday.
And another weekend has come and gone. I swear they go faster and faster each time. Is it time for a 3 day weekend yet?
I'm going to take it a little further back, and pass on some scenes from the week as well as the weekend.
I had a dermatologist appointment and left early from work last week, while I was away, I received this text.
Apparently they just felt like building a wall. I don't even ask why anymore. It's probably one of the tamest things they've done/wanted to do. A few months ago I did put my foot down when they wanted to build a cardboard fort.
I've been looking for some short sleeved top for the summer and I've been having a heck of a time. Yes, there are plenty of tank tops (which I won't wear to work without a cardigan) and short sleeved t-shirts but I wanted something a little nicer and I didn't want to spend a ton of money because I'm expecting them to be too big next summer.
In my searching, I apparently forgot about TJ Maxx. The one near my work was definitely a treasure trove of goodness.
If you like it. buy 2.
I was also pretty pumped that it was a medium in a non-stretchy material. I think they'll definitely still be wearable in 15-20lbs.
Perfect with jeans on Friday.
Friday night it was Opening Ceremony time! While we were waiting for it to begin, I decided I'd take the plunge and get new Harry Potter book. I wondered if it was available on Amazon Prime Now and it was! I ordered it at 6pm and it was delivered to my door at 930pm.
Raleigh is one of the few cities Prime Now is available in and it's AMAZING. Need Harry Potter? A shower curtain? Perhaps some sparking water? Delivery is free and there's a $5 tip that's automatically applied. It's a win win win for everyone involved.
Saturday morning dawned bright and early and I went to my Jenny appointment, which went well. I think it should have been better, but the chocolate chip oatmeal cookies I made and ate probably contributed to a not-so-great loss. It was fine, it really was, but cookies the night before a weigh in is a rookie mistake.
Then it was off to Body Pump and afterwards Jiffy Lube to get an oil change. Next door is Dunkin Donuts and I got an iced coffee while I waited.
According to time hop, my routine hasn't changed much in 5 years. (remember when people actually cared about 4 square?) RIP Rapid Fitness.
After I got home, I took Cleo for a walk to the lake in the stupid hot, then Kev and I ran over to the mall for a bit before dinner.
I'd been wanting a pretzel with cheese sauce for like 3 weeks and I had to wait until after my weigh-in (obviously) so I had 6 days to work it off. On another note, after this weekend of debauchery, Kev and I have committed to clean eating and better sticking to our respective diets from now until we go to DC in 20 days. We're still losing weight but could be doing better if we cleaned it up.
So, we went to the German Grille in Cary. I'd been before and Kev had not. The first thing I saw was a list of schnapps shots.
There's just so many bad memories in that list.I don't know many people who don't have a bad Goldschlager story.
I ordered a champagne beverage which I expected to receive in a champagne flute. Nope.
Then I FINALLY got my pretzel!
pretzel crisis averted
I actually wasn't hungry after eating most of the pretzel but I still got bratwurst plate. One brat, sauteed onions, and the spatzel (SO GOOD).
I ate like 4 bites and took the rest home, only to eat later.
Kev was looking at the menu and saw the pork knuckle needed to be ordered 24 hours in advance, but he called to see if there was a chance and there was! They said we had to get there after 7pm for it to be ready disclaimer, we should have split it.
Here's my finger for comparison.
When it arrived, it had a knife stuck in it, like a pork Excalibur. It was huge and stupid and amazingly good. It came with onions, sauerkraut, red cabbage and skin on mashed potatoes. Damn.
Afterwards, we were going to see a live band at Tony's Oyster Bar. Tony's is apparently the #1 cougar bar in all of Raleigh and a perfect place for middle aged folks to hook up. We were going for the people watching and to see if it lived up to the hype. Oh did it....
Here are my thoughts, as dictated into my phone by slightly tipsy Lara. Mind you, we pulled into the parking lot, which is in a strip mall, and were greeted by 2 60-year old making out all over the hood of their car. It was off to an epic start.
- How the F do you dance to Grand Funk Railroad?
- Everyone is 45 and over, on the prowl, and the scent of desperation mixes with the sweat and humidity.
- Kevin says I'm terrible because people are just trying to have a good time and get some action
- I was on the dance floor with a glass of white wine, because that's ALL THERE IS TO DRINK (of course)
- I left my ID in the car because there's no one who's age could even be questioned as being under 21.
- I should definitely squat over the toilet here
- There can't be a single 16 year old left in Cary who isn't babysitting tonight.
- This is like a 30 year High School Reunion.
The band was good and the people watching was even better. I wish it hadn't been so humid because I would have stayed and watched and watched and watched some more. So epic.
I couldn't really top that evening. Sunday was the same old same old. Laundry, groceries, little run, Body Flow, Olympics and blogging!
Tomorrow is a busy day, I have a bunch of meetings, 2 people to interview and at night it's off to NCSU for my first KD meeting of the year. Lord, I can't believe they're back to school already. Back to School = fall, right? Where's my sweater?? Really though, the first Pumpkin Spice items have been spotted. Pumpkin Spice lindt balls at the mall and PS coffee at Fresh market. IT'S COMING.
