Scenes from the Weekend

Me again. The last 2 weeks have been pretty crazy with work and other commitments and the blog thing just wasn't happening. I was feeling really stressed about some life things (which I realized why on Saturday, more on that in another post) and this just fell by the way-side. It's not the first time and probably won't be the last. So is life.

So, what happened this weekend? I'm gonna take it all the way back to Thursday. Kev and I had plans Thursday and Friday night since he was heading out of town on Saturday morning. Now, before anyone scolds me for revealing that he's gone, my brother is staying with us for a while and my dog isn't a fan of people she doesn't know. I'll be just fine.

Thursday we went to see Sausage Party. It's a naughty, naughty movie and I have the sense of humor of a 13 year old boy and I thought it was hysterical. My favorite part was when the sausage recreated a scene from Meatloaf's "I'd do anything for love" video. I was CRYING. I might have been the only person in the theater who got the reference and it was spectacular.

Friday I found the video on-line and seriously, wtf is going on? Is he the Beast, is he a vampire, why is there an investigator, why is that chick levitating? So many explosions. Then I discovered it was directed by a young Michael Bay. Michael Bay, Meatloaf, Steinman, it's a trifecta of epic proportions.

If you have any idea what's going on, please let me know.

Friday was a regular work day and I left a little early because we had tickets at DPAC to see Newsies!

Before the show we went to Vin Rouge for some dinner. For the first time in perhaps, ever, I didn't order the tartare OR a cosmo. I had to weigh in the next morning dontcha know.

Instead I had the duck confit salad. It was tasty, but tartare and frites it was not.

Off to the show!

I knew nothing about Newsies. Nada. I knew it was a Disney movie and about the newspaper. I was pretty sure there was a fight. I turned out to be right on all counts.

It was a great production, The story was pretty basic, it had some good songs (Hamilton it was not) but the dancing, OMG the DANCING was AMAZING! So talented. It was highly entertaining,

Saturday morning Kev headed off on his road trip and I went to my Jenny appointment. It wasn't awesome and I was up .8 pounds. I ate out the last 2 nights, only worked out 3 times and I had far too many bites and tastes of things I didn't account for. It happens. I hate it, but it happens. I weighed myself this afternoon and I'd already lost the .8 I was up yesterday morning. I knew it was fake.

Oh, and Jenny debuted 5 new meals Saturday. Sadly they were in the store, but not in the computer, so I couldn't buy them. My consultant felt bad for me and gave me a free veggie fritata.

Then I went to Body Pump. I've talked before about the annoying old dude who attends that class, well Saturday he was in full on annoying mode. He wanders around during the class, shouts at people in the middle of songs, yells at the instructor and he thinks it's funny. There was a point in the next to the last track (abs) when he put his stuff away and walked over and was harassing a lady in the back of the room.

I swear, if he was still in the class or outside when it was finished, I was going to say something to him. I get that this is your social time but your antics are distracting and it affects the experience for the rest of the people in the room. You aren't funny and it pisses off the people who are there to get a good workout. I like the class, I want to go to it, but I CAN'T STAND that guy.

After class I ran over to Whole Foods, then to Vitamin Shoppe to get some supplements (Amazon sent the wrong ones), then it was time to shower and go to the outlet mall!

Yes, while Kev is away I always go to the outlet mall. It's my treat to be able to walk around and look at stuff for hours. :)

I've been looking for a dress to wear for our anniversary dinner next weekend. It's our 10th and we'll be in Washington DC (brother and dog still here, don't try and rob me) We're going to the Prime Rib and it's jacket required so I needed something nice. I'm wanted to base it around these shoes I got from Sole Society

I know, right???

I've been to several malls, Nordstrom, ordered a dress online (nope) and couldn't find anything, I was hopeful the outlet mall would be the answer and sadly, it was not. I actually left with 0 purchases and I'm pretty sure this is the first time in my life that has ever happened.

I'm pretty solidly in between sizes in most places. Mediums button, but unattractively and Larges are a little bit too big. Believe me, if that wasn't the case, I would have spent quite a but at Express. EVERYTHING WAS 50% OFF!

Large on the left, medium on the right

I was bummed and took my sadness to Trader Joe's in Chapel Hill on the way home. It was close to what I might call the 7th circle of hell. Full of people wandering aimlessly and constantly in my way. I came in annoyed to start and that didn't help. This is why I stay in Raleigh...

I picked up a watermelon and it was full of disappointment just like the rest of the day had been.

You failed me.

After I got home, I sulked for a while and decided to try Clothes Mentor, which is a consignment store. I didn't find a dinner dress, but I did pick up a grey and white stripped dress that will be a great transition piece for the fall. Stripes, they're my kryptonite.

I woke up Sunday determined to have a better day. I started with my coffee and some blueberry pancakes.

I drove a bit out of my way to a Body Pump class at the gym near my work. It started at 1135am and I wanted to get it out of the way instead of going to my usual 230pm class. It was good, I actually did a back bend for the first time in maybe 15 years.

Kev said I should go to the place "where all the stores are far away". I assumed he meant Cameron Village, so there I went. My first stop was Fifi's Consignment Shop. SUCCESS!!!

They do this thing where anything that's been in the store greater than 30 days is 50% off. That made this dress $12!!! Shopping win!! (And I didn't do my hair all weekend.)

I also found dress at Ivy and Leo that's another great fall transition piece.

I brought a Jenny Craig tuna salad kit in case I got hungry for lunch and I sat on a bench and ate it. Look, when you had a bad weigh in, you give 0 Fs if someone wants to judge you for eating a tuna cracker on a bench.

I stopped at Tin Roof Teas and got some tea that has gummy bears in it, and I found this!

After my ghetto work iced coffee last week, this looked like a much better alternative.

I also picked up a suitcase that I can actually use as a carry-on instead of always having to check my luggage.

I'm flying to DC and Kev is going to meet me there. I fly at few times a year and I'm tired of always checking my bag. I finally adulted and got something I could actually carry. And it's purple paisley.

On my way home I stopped and got groceries and ANOTHER watermelon.

Dinner was JC turkey plus more green beans. The turkey dinner is quite good but it wrecks havoc with my food touching issues.

There's nothing I can do to separate the stuffing from the potato from the turkey. I just need my food to be in compartments.

Now it's time for the Closing Ceremonies!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Scenes from the Weekend

I'm sitting here wondering what where the last 2 days went. Sunday was the worst, I went from one thing to the other to the next and oh -ish, it's Sunday night.

Friday afternoon I had an appointment at the genius bar because the GPS on my phone wasn't working. They ran some diagnostics and decided to give me a new phone because it was still under warranty. That was pretty nice, considering I'm pretty sure the issues happened when I dropped it in the toilet about a month after I got it. Thankfully they didn't shine the light of truth in and see whatever is in there that tells them you dropped it in the potty.

After I got home from work, we sat around for a while then Kev and  decided to go to Layfayette Village and catch Pokemon. Yes, yes we did . There are a bunch of Poke Stops there and plenty of people walking around. Yep.

Saturday morning I had my weigh in (it went well) came home, had some breakfast and even though I wasn't feeling it, I went to the gym. I got an Apple Watch last week and was eager to see how it did with the different work outs. I wish that there were more options for types of workouts and most everything for me wasn't "other" but I think it tracks it pretty well. I really like how it separates active calories, which is what you actually burn in the workout, and doesn't include the calories you burn just being alive.

Body Pump
413 total and 301 were active calories. I have a goal each day of 590 Active calories and on Saturday, I was surprised it took me until the end of the day to get there.

More on the Apple Watch later, but I'm really liking it. Numbers, goals!

After the gym I showered and went to get my hair done. It was time to cover those greys! When I got home, Kev and I headed to Costco. Yeeessss Costco. The Samples were epic.

For dinner we headed to Glenwood Grill. I was convinced we'd been there before and Kev said we hadn't. He was right.

Thursday at work we were discussing Cougar bars in Raleigh and where an older person looking for companionship would go to find other similarly minded people. We googled it and Glenwood Grill came up on several websites as one. I didn't know that when Kev made reservations, but the website was right. There were lost of grey hairs there. We might have been the youngest couple in the place. Us and some kid who was there with his grandparents.

I was thinking that since the name of this blog is Coffee and Cosmos that I should start reviewing all the Grey Goose Cosmos in the Triangle. Since I eat mostly Jenny Craig food, the one night I give myself off is date night on Saturday with Kev. 99% of the time I have a cosmo. I feel a new feature coming soon.

I still need a rating system but one of the things will be the shrapnel content. Shrapnel is the crap floating in the drink that gets in the way of my alcohol. The one at Glenwood Grill had not only random lemon rind, but also lemon pulp? Gross. I hate pulp and I even more hat things getting in the way of my booze. It was passable.

For dinner I had a very poorly lit 4oz fillet with parsnip mash and it came with fried oysters. Kev also ordered a Rare Fillet, and his was 10oz, in case mine was over cooked, which it was. I gave him this and he gave me 4oz of his.

It tasted good, just overcooked.

Kev wanted dessert and I wanted a better beverage, so we went to Vinnie's Steakhouse to the bar.

When I do my reviews. this is the Cosmo by which all other Cosmos are rated. Vinnie's has the best in town and the bartender is amazing. This one was a little short, I like my booze to the top of the glass, but the color, smoothness and taste are all on point.

Notice the lack of shrapnel in there.

Kev got the blueberry crostada dessert special and I helped. It was amazing.

Sunday was a mash of the same old, same old things. Wake up, tidy the kitchen, start laundry, fold last week's laundry that I was too lazy to do last week, then head to the gym for a run and Body Flow.

Apple Watch wants me to run outside for at least 20 minutes so it can understand my pace before so it can better track me on the treadmill. Well Apple Watch, it's 8000 degrees here and that's just not happening. I ran without the calibration and it was pretty close to the distance on the treadmill.

I was running 5 min and walking 2 and the treadmill said 2.35 miles. Not terrible for no calibration.

I was curious to see how many calories I burned in Body Flow and I was pleasantly surprised that it was 237 active calories.

After the gym I stopped at the grocery store to get beverages and a watermelon. I was disappointed 2x this week with bad melon. Both Costco and Harris Teeter gave me un-ripe, inedible melon which is BS. I might have to be that person and return the cut open melon, especially since they were $5 each.

I capped off the evening with a second batch of laundry to fold and a little Sharknado 4. I apparently missed Sharknado 3 and thought I could catch up pretty quickly. I was mistaken...

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Happy Monday!

Weekly Wednesday Weigh In #13

Meh, another slow week. It can definitely be frustrating when you don't even see a pound loss in 2 weeks. I looked over the week to see if I could figure out what was going on and if there was anything I could change.
1. I didn't sleep well this week. Especially on Saturday morning, I was super tired. For some reason I woke up several times each night last week to pee. Damn pee. I'm going to restrict my after 9pm beverage intake and see if that helps me stay asleep.
2. I ate most of my "limited free foods" this week. I know I "can" but I found myself falling into the habit of eating a hard candy there or a 25 calorie meringue there. It's within plan, and really only at extra 300-ish calories in a week, which is negligible. It's more the behavior. I don't "need" a candy treat. I'm not hungry.

On Saturday night I definitely indulged and I'll see if it affects my weigh in this upcoming week. At least I have 6 days to work it off.

Workouts
Saturday - Body Pump
Sunday - Run 2.2 miles, Body Flow
Monday- Body Combat
Tuesday - Rest - Kev and I went to dinner and played Pokemon
Wednesday - Body Combat
Thursday - Early Star Trek showing with Kev
Friday - Ladies Night

What I'm eating this week

This is what my Sunday morning breakfast looks like every week. Kev leaves for work, I go to Brueggers, get my coffee, come home and make my JC breakfast scramble. Usually scramble would imply that everything is mixed together, which it is, unless you like your potatoes separated, which I do. So I pick them out and cook them in the pan. Then I pit them on opposite ends of the plate because food can't touch.

Picture
I got a pretty decent side by side picture last week. I pulled out that polka dot shirt that I hadn't worm in a while.

Timehop also gave me a picture from last year which was super helpful.  I'll be honest, the only reason why I downloaded Timehop was to get pictures from the past for my comparison shots.

I can see a little more definition in my waist from last year to this, which is nice. I also see that despite washing, that same crease is there. WTF? I've never noticed that before.

Cheats
Last week there were a few cheats. I had a hot dog for lunch on Saturday, an amazing dinner at Buku Saturday night, Subway on Sunday and dinner out on Tuesday. Like I mentioned earlier, I also had probably too many bites of things and candies, that were within my guidelines, probably weren't necessary.

I've cleaned it up a lot this week, here's hoping the scale reflects it!

Scenes from the Weekend

Yes, yes it really is Monday already. Oy. I think I need more 3 day weekends. More and more and more. I'm just trying to stay focused until the end of August when Kev and I have our anniversary trip planned. Just gotta stay focused....

On to the weekend! for weeks I've wanted to see the new Ghostbusters movie. Yes, I'm a child of the 80s and as a kid when the first one came out and like many, I was a little miffed to hear that they were making a new one. But I saw the trailer and it didn't look bad. Kev was absolutely against it. He had NO desire to go. But I wore him down when I saw that it had gotten a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. We went on Friday and you know what???

IT WAS GOOD! I'm picky about movies and if it was crap, even a little crap, I'd tell you. But it wasn't. It was really good and it made me happy. I don't know why, but it just made me happy and that gives it a thumbs up in my book.

Saturday morning dawned bright and early and I headed off for my weigh in (it went well). A little grocery shopping for fruit and veggies then home for breakfast. After breakfast I went to Body Pump class.

I've mentioned it before that there's a really annoying guy in class who likes to yell at people and talk over the instructor and today, the instructor finally got fed up and totally called him out.

Annoying Guy - Yelling something at someone across the room while the instructor is talking
Instructor -  You want me to get you a microphone so you won't have to shout over me?
Annoying Guy - Yea, I need a microphone
Instructor - If we go head to head to see who can be heard, you won't win, believe me, you won't win.

I was DYING and might have laughed out loud. Every week that guy is annoying AF and I'm glad someone called him out.

After I got home and showered, I went for a much needed pedicure. I'd brought my iPad to read a book while I had my toes done but instead this happened.

Sitting in the pedi chair, there were 5 Poke stops, 3 with attractors (apparently my terminology is wrong, these were "lures" but you get the picture) . I sat there and caught pokemon the entire time. #noshamehere.

I was pretty hungry afterwards and I still needed to run to Trader Joe's and the grocery store. I was in Lafayette Village and there's a hot dog shop that opened not that long ago. I have a secret love for hit dogs and all things considered, they aren't that bad of an option.

I knew JoCa's Gourmet Dogs was going to be good when they asked how I wanted my dog cooked. Boiled in water, grilled with a little char or split and grilled with butter on the flat top.

Char please! With chipped onions, relish and a little bit of mustard (I took off most of the relish). For lunch, it's not that bad of an option. No fires or chips and it kept me full for a while. No veggies with lunch but it was still tasty.

After I got home from my errands, I sat for a bit before we headed off to dinner. Our reservations were at 715 but we left early and went to Best Buy to look at TVs. We've had ours for a while and it was starting to get these little white spots on the screen. We found out the TV was recalled for this issue several years ago and we didn't know. Since it was WAY too late, we started pricing some newer models and yea, we ended up getting a new one that was bigger, better quality, and a lot less expensive than what we spent on the old one 7 years ago.

Dinner was at Buku and they;re known for "Global Street Food" it had been a while since we'd been there and I'd been wanting to go back for a while. It was just as good as I remembered. They have a lot of Small Plates, Big Plates and Bowls.

Kev had a bunch of small plates and I took a few bites. We had the Indian Naan, the Chinese Steamed Buns, which kinda looked like bun tacos with seasoned pork belly inside and they were stupid good, and the Buku Roll

Spicy Tuna on top, avacodo and crab inside.

Kev ate most of the Small plates and I had the Korean Bibimap

Grilled hangar steak, bok choy. roasted carrots, spicy pickled cucumber, kimchi, steamed rice, egg and a spicy BBQ sauce.

The waiter told mt that it was meant to be all mixed up in one big pile. I looked at him in horror. DO YOU SEE THE PERFECTLY SEPARATED PILES OF FOOD??? Mix it all up, have you lost your mind?!?! I finished probably about 1/3 of it and it was fantastic. Really, so good.

Kev ate some of mine and then he went with the Apple Tart.

Nom.

It was raining like CRAZY the entire time we were there and it just kept getting worse. When we drove though Downtown Raleigh it wasn't too bad.

Even though Krispy Kreme only had Doug for sale.

When we got off out exit, the flooding by the mall was insane! The stretch we had to drive until we started going uphill was really bad. I'm glad we had Kev's CRV instead of my car.

That's the parking lot at the mall! (Not my picture)

Sunday was a late morning. Sleeping in is glorious. I finally got up and made myself some JC Breakfast Scramble.

Sunday is the usual. Laundry, then I went to the gym and ran 2 miles on the treadmill before going to Body Flow.

On my way home from the gym I stopped at the movie theater to pre-buy our Star Trek tickets. Kev is a huge Trekkie and we were going to the Thursday night advanced screening at 730pm.

Now a little blogging and more damn laundry.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Weigh-in Week 2

I'm gonna try something different this time, instead of smooshing my weigh ins and weekend, in the same post, I'm going to make them separate and talk about what worked, what didn't, my workouts, any cheats, and a selfie to track progress..

Another week, another weigh in. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that I lost 2.0 pounds this week for a total of 4.8. Yea, apparently I lost 2.8 last week instead of 2.5.

I'm definitely a little disappointed that I still haven't seen a big initial loss. Like I said, the last time, I had a 6lb first week loss then it consistently went down every week after that. I keep thinking that I should see a 6 or 4lb loss and I haven't. I was lamenting that I hadn't seen a big initial drop, Kevin reminded me that it might be that I'm just not retaining a lot of water. Most initial big drops are from the initial water weight and maybe I just don't have all that much?

He reminded me that I used to be mushy and now I'm not. I think I weigh about the same in these 2 pictures.

If I ever say I want to cut my hair short again, someone show me this picture and slap me.

I think that's why I was shocked to see I gained as much as I did. I don't look like that lady in the picture. I just don't. Yes these pants are stretchy and the shirt is flowy, but these are size 10 pants and a med shirt. I must have some killer muscles under my fat.

Even though I'm a little disappointed, I know the program will work for me, it did for 50 pounds and can do it again. I just have to stay focused.

Workouts:
Saturday - Body Pump
Sunday - Body Flow
Weds - Boot Camp

I definitely think I could have done better in this area. Sat and Sunday I was feeling pretty rough, I just didn't have a lot of energy and I was hungrier than I should have been. Thankfully something switched on Monday and my energy was back and I didn't feel like I wanted to eat my face all the time. Now that I've turned the corner, I think I can start incorporating in some harder workouts.

Cheats:
I ate off plan 1 day, but it was pretty close to what I would have been able to eat. We went out for steak on Saturday night and I had about 4 oz of prime rib. Then I had truffled cauliflower and some other veggie I can't remember. I didn't eat my lunch fat and was planning on not eating dessert and having wine instead. I didn't really like the wine and since we ate kinda early, I new I'd want my dessert later, so no wine. I'm sure I went over on my fats but it wasn't terrible. If we're going to eat out, I like doing it on Saturday and giving myself an entire week to make it up.

I also think I had 1 tortilla chip on cinco de mayo, 1x I had an extra fruit because I was hungry at night and one day I had a small piece of cheese. All in all, not terrible and enough to get a 2lb loss.

Oh, I've been posting more on Instagram recently because I like looking at other people loosing weight and what they eat. I changed my "name" to LarasLosingAgain. I needed a new name, it was time. I was trying to decide what it should be and I kept coming up with the phrase "goes down" or "Lara Goes Down", which I realized sounded more like a porno than a weight loss feed. At least I came up with a better idea.

My "week" starts on Saturday so I'm already 2 days in as I type this, but I think I'm off to a good start, here's to another loss this week! Wish me luck!

First Weigh-in and a Weekend Re-Cap

Well, Saturday was my first official weigh-in and if you follow me on Instagram, you know I lost 2.5 pounds. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely excited to see a loss, but it was a little anti-climactic. Here's why.

1. Remember last week when I said I regained 42.5 pounds? Yea, I didn't. I regained 45 pounds. I don't know what happened and the number I thought I saw was different than it really was. Maybe I blacked put momentarily or something. Anyways, when I got on the scale I saw what I "thought" was my starting weight and I assumed I didn't lose anything. Thankfully I did and 2.5 is better than nothing but eh, it's what I already thought I weighed.
2. The first time I did Jenny, my first weigh-in was -6 pounds. Now, I know that the last time my initial weight was in the afternoon and I did 10 days before the next weigh-in. I was going to see a bigger loss. Still, I wanted to see something closer to 6, like 4ish
3. I know I would have had a better weigh-in and been close to 4 had my uterus not betrayed me. That's right, I woke up to a special friend. I was so stinking mad. I was apparently really bloated because I must have peed 80 times over the next 2 days. Thanks.

I got home from my weigh-in and it was time for breakfast. I went with the french toast, which was one of my weekend favs. I heated up some frozen Trader Joe's berries for my fruit portion and it was lovely.

After breakfast, I was off to Body Pump. I haven't been to Pump much recently because I was healing my hip. Also, I've been going to spin class more frequently and pump fell by the wayside. Now when I go, I lower my weights from where I was, but I still have soreness the next day. I really should add it back in once a week.

I really like that a 10am Saturday class exists at the gym closest to my house. What I don't like are the people who attend. There is an older gentleman who is often at the weekend classes. I know he's a regular but he's so fricking obnoxious. He's constantly shouting or egging on one of his friends or just being annoying. Everyone rolls their eyes when he starts but it's a gym class and no one will ever say anything to him. He's the reason why I stopped going to the class several months ago and ran on Saturday mornings instead. Ugh. I might have to go back to running.

After a lot of glaring and RBF, I got home, showered and then my brother and I headed off to a flea market / antique show. We weren't impressed and both agreed that these weren't antiques, but instead things that we had in our house growing up and if we really wanted them, we'd get them from mom.

I had this phone and sold it for $2 at a garage sale in the 90s. They wanted $28 for it. No.

After that I did some house things and then Kev and I headed to dinner. We went to Nana Steak in Durham and it was pretty good. we split the prime rib and had vegetables. Well, I had about 4oz and Kev ate the rest. You can definitely eat out on Jenny Craig and still lose weight. I was just a little nervous that it was so soon and I want a big loss this week. But we still had a lovely time.

On our way home, we stopped at Pier One and got some lamps. A few months ago I received an email from Influenster that someone signed up using my affiliate link, I was entered into a drawing and won a $100 gift card to Pier One! NICE. I've been holding onto it for a while and I finally remembered to cash it in.

It's a bad picture, but they're really cool.

Sunday morning I woke up and made some coffee, ate a breakfast scramble and watched a Twister Sister documentary. It was surprisingly good.

Then I ran to the mall to get a new pair of flip flops and I came across a really cute shirt. The large fit well and was perfect. The med, not so much but I got the smaller size knowing that I'm going to be able to happily wear it in a few weeks. Goal shirt!

Made my lunch and a off to Body Flow. Really, I got a new yoga mat last week at TJ Maxx for $9 and I was excited to try it out.

There's a lady who goes to this class who wears baggy shirts and no bra. I unfortunately know this because some poses force you to bend over and look a certain way. Then you see things you don't need to see.

Dinner, then off to the store to get more fruit for the week
Chicken fettuccine Alfredo with zoodles and broccoli.

Now I'm finishing up this post and eating some Ranch Snaps. They're new to me and apparently a "lentil crisp". Not bad.

How was your weekend?
