Five on Friday - Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

OMG Lara, really, you too? Every last Blogger on the planet just posted their Nordstrom Anniversary Sales picks. It's the only thing on my feed for the last day and a half.

Yep, me too.

Here's why. I never really understood/cared about Nordstrom until I saw everyone start posting about the sale last year. I came in late to the game and even though a lot of it was picked over, there were still some amazing deals to be had. Each year Nordstrom opens their sale early to their card holders and what makes them different is that the anniversary sale isn't full of crap that didn't sell all year. .

Nope, there's plenty of items perfect for summer but even more that will be great for cooler weather. AND they discount designers that never go on sale. Hunter Boots, Tory Burch bags and shoes, Rag and Bone booties, there's some great deals if you were saving for something special.

So, remember when this blog used to have a fashion component? Well, let's bring a little of that back today. I haven't really been shopping because shopping while losing weight isn't the brightest idea. I have a lot of pounds to go and I have plenty of sizes in my closet. (I say this as I post about the sale) Instead I was looking for items that were right on the edge of fitting and would still look good as I lost weight or even be a little oversized when I get to my goal.

Let's be honest, it's almost time for fall. I "know" it's only the middle of July, but PSL will be here at the end of August, school supplies are out, college starts back up in like 4 weeks. Yes, the sorority I advise comes back on the 8th of August for spirit week, classes start the week after, recruitment is around the corner, football is starting back up. Shit, we all need a jacket.

So, here are 5 of my top picks for the Anniversary Sale. Some of these may or may not already be on their way to me....

When I saw this in the catalog, I knew it was something I "had" to try on. It comes in olive, black and this one which they're calling Grey Ebony. I searched all last fall for a nice draped front jacket and never found one I loved. Honestly, for the fall, I love me a nice jacket. They're great for layering, especially for cold offices. I swear, every day at 4pm the winds of the tundra start blowing in my office.

I love a good pair of crop leggings for the gym, it's all I ever wear. I can't do full length or ankle pants unless I'm running outside in the cold. Give me a crop any day and these have a little mesh, which I'm totally in to right now. I ordered the large which fits a 10-12. Even at goal I expect to be a pretty solid 8 and maybe a 6 here or there, and these will be fine, I'll never lose enough booty for gym pants to fall off.

AKA, the Blardigan.

WTF is a Blardigan Lara? Well folks, it's a cardigan that feels like a ridiculously soft blanket. It's warm and cozy and you'll want to wear it all the time. These sold out like crazy last year and I see that the all grey one is already sold out. Which amazes me because THIS ONE IS GORGEOUS. Oh my pretty, that Nordstrom gift card I have is going towards you. I got the small/Medium which fits a 2-10.

It's a striped shirt and like a fat kid in a candy shop, I'm unable to control myself around one. I did order the large, and depending on the fit, it might go back for the medium. It's junior sized though, so we'll see.

I also love Nordstrom for their free shipping. Order off the website, free shipping and if I don't like it or want a different size, I just return it to the store. If  the replacement is in the store, great, if not, get it online.

I have a slight obsession with Kendra Scott and might spend more time than I should at their store in Durham, but this, this necklace I love. I have a deep love of the Rayne necklace with the tassel but the Rae is just as pretty. The color combos they have on sale are perfect for the summer and fall. This gunmetal and abalone are amazing together and the gold and pyrite?
I die.

Happy Shopping folks!

Prepping my Fall Wardrobe -

I'm ready for Fall. No if, ands or buts about it. I'm ready for Fall. It's been unseasonably hot in NC this year and the 90 degree days started back in June. I'm good thank you very much. I've seen my first pumpkin spice thing AND candy corn. I'm ready!

I've been perusing the interwebs looking at fall fashion and trying to decide what's on my wish list. After I put these pictures together, I learned that I apparently want to revert to my 80s rocker chick roots.

I bet I could still get my hair that high. I just need some Aqua Net. Funny story, when I was in college we were watching Jerry Springer and there was a lady whose name was Aquanetta. Seriously, someone's mom named them after a bottle of hairspray. That's so unfortunate.

I digress, on to some of my key pieces for the Fall.

1. Leather (like) Jacket. I started looking for a leather-ish jacket a few weeks ago and finally started to see some tricking into the stores. I wanted one light enough to wear in the office as well as out.

I ordered this one from Nordstrom anniversary sale. I really liked the moto style of it. It was super cute on as well. Check it out here. I'd suggest going up a size.

Then I saw this one at Nordstrom Rack. I LOVE IT. I ordered it, then actually saw it in the store and loved it even more in person. I returned the other jacket... Really, for the price you can't beat it and it's super flattering on. I got the black but I bet the brown is cute in person too.

2. Chambray dress. Sadly I'm getting to the age where I remember having items of clothing that I've gotten rid of and now they're back in style and I'm pissed that they're gone. Really though, I wouldn't have kept something that long but I'd happily by it again. I HAD a denim a-line dress and it was adorable. Ergh....

I'm looking for a chambray dress with an a-line skirt, Everything I'm seeing are shirt dresses and that style just doesn't work well on my body shape. I need something with a defined waist.

This eShakti dress is super cute

3. Shearling vest - I don't know why I love this in the black but I just do. It'd be so cute with skinny jeans and a longer shirt.

Also at Nordstrom.

4. Black leather skirt. Really Lara? Leather-ish jacket, that shearling vest AND a leather skirt? YES! I don't know why but I can't STOP. Loft had a cute leather skirt last season but it looked tragic on me. Maybe this season will be different.

I don't know where I found this but I'd love to find something similar (non trashy)

5. New Chambray shirt. I have one that will be awesome in 10 pounds but I'd like something to tide me over in the mean time.
This one from Maurice's is just the right color.

6. Cute Tunic. I love a nice tunic  for the fall. Wear it with jeans and booties now and with tights and a scarf in a few months. I LOVE this one from Nordstrom.

I got this in the large during the anniversary sale and like that it's a little longer and I can pass it off as a dress. I tried it on in the store and the medium definitely fit but it was a lot shorter, I would have needed to wear tights or leggings underneath,

So yea, my fall wishlist is nothing but denim and leather. Huh, I'm sure that says something about my personality, I just don't know what. lol

Oh, the next GYPO Style Challenge is open! It's the work wear challenge and I've been looking forward to this one. 3 weeks of outfits, all work appropriate, really, I'm super excited to get the shopping list. I highly doubt there will be a shearling leather vest on the list, but I can hope. Check it out here while the early bird pricing is still in affect and come join us!
