Scenes from the Weekend #2

I can't believe it's Monday already! Well, I can and actually I was pretty excited to head back to work this morning. New job, lots to to and plan and stuff. But we had a pretty nice weekend and I thought, hey, lets share what happened.

I'm also linking up with the Secret Blogger Club. Definitely go check out The Blonder Life and her co-host, See You In a Porridge

Right here should be a picture that directs you to the link-up. However, Internet Explorer doesn't seem to like it and I see a big X. Hopefully you don't. Ugh, I offered IT $1 to load Chrome on my laptop and they laughed at me. He should have countered, I would have paid $3.

Weds I went to the gym and when I got there, realized I'd left my pants at home. I've managed in a regular bra or without socks but there's no getting around no pants. So home I went but I made sure to schedule time on Thursday after work.

I got to the gym a little early and had some time to watch People's Court on the elliptical. I LOVE me some People's Court and this guy's sweater was epic. Good for you young Cosby, good for you.

I did that for a while and headed into Body Pump where this guy planted himself right in front of me.

Mr Olympiad took this class really seriously. Each of those orange weights were 10 pounds and during the squat track he had 57.5 pounds on each side and was grunting like a mad man. He also dropped the full bar at the end of each track. Stong Man competition this is not. Seriously though, kudos to you for all that weight but I just don't associate that level of weightlifting with a Body Pump class. I see him in more of a hard core weight setting.

I burned not quite 600 calories which is cool. I'm just such a cardio queen, I have trouble reconciling gym time vs caloric burn. I know weights burn more fat in the long run but I still love the numbers.

Friday Morning Kev headed out to our blueberry bush and found these gems.

When we moved in, we had no idea there was a giant blueberry bush in out back yard. It's literally 12 feet tall and 20 feet wide. The berries almost ready to pick so it's time to shoo away the deer and birds!

Friday was a ridiculously lazy day. I'm really embarrassed by how few steps I racked up on Friday. It was almost impressive how lazy I was. I started the day doing a little blogging, then we headed to one of our community pools for the festivities.

I really need to find some sort of adult beverage in cans to take to the pool and hide in my koozie. Instead I had some raspberry club soda.

My choice of reading materials at the pool? So far so good and if you have any interest in zombies, definitely check it out. I'm usually a huge zombie fan but this book was written by the super talented Nikki Hopeman who I went to college with and we were in the same sorority. Really a great summer read and I'm a little sad that I've had it for a while and am just now getting to it.

Then I sat on my ass the rest of the day. We watched Transformers on Amazon Prime and it was awful. I swear I needed Cliff Notes to follow along with the plot. I'm glad I've never paid to see any of those movies.

After lazing around all day Friday, I was up bright and early Saturday morning for a run. There wasn't any humidity and it was glorious out. My run, not so much. I'm going to have to suck it up and run on the treadmill while I wait for it to cool off.

After my run we headed to the State Farmer's Market where I ran into these two.

I don't know why furries were there. Confession time, I can't stop getting my picture taken with people in costumes. It's like a borderline obsession at this point.

We didn't have any plans for the evening so we headed out to the Durham Bulls Park to watch some baseball. It was Team USA vs. Team Chinese Taipei.

Baseball selfie.

Kev and I both ordered burgers and we split some fries. After a bad case of food poisoning I don't usually eat burgers but this one was supposed to be grass fed and delicious. It wasn't. The texture was just gross. I gave it to Kev and he ate the patty so it wouldn't go to waste but yuck.

After a few innings I stumbled on a taco stand. These... These were delicious! Chicken, some sort of slaw, a little cheese and plenty of salsa, Delish!

And it was fireworks night! It was a great show, we were really impressed. And since we didn't see any fireworks on the 4th, we felt we got our holiday on.

This also happened. Kev wants to buy a pair of jorts for the show.

Those were the highlights of the weekend! Don't forget that my give away is still going on. Click here to enter!

How did you spend the holiday weekend?

What do you do with a bag of swag?

I mentioned yesterday that I wanted to save the Komen swag for another post, No reason other than I see other bloggers with bags of goodies and you NEVER get to see what's inside. It's like peaking in someone's medicine cabinet or in their fridge. Not that I would ever do that but come on, who isn't curious of what's in there?

So, one of craziest parts of the Komen race is the sheer volume of swag one can collect. After running races for the last 4 years, I've accumulated more than my share of crap. I have everything from shirts to hats to bandannas to shoelaces, to meatballs, you name it, someone's given it away.

By far, the biggest haul can be had at this race and I had to post what I collected. Now I'm sure there were things I missed and I didn't grab any of the candy or popsicles. I can't eat them on the detox anyways.

First up, Walgreens, and it was a pretty nice spread. A reusable bag, water bottle (did I mention that I might have hundreds of water bottles at this point? Kev saw this one and told me to get rid of it because we've reached maximum capacity) a little pill key chain thingie where you can hide a few pills or whatever else you can stuff in there. A mirror compact, face wash and chapstick. Well done Walgreens, well done.

Belk also gave you a drawstring bag with a koozie and some gum. Koozies are always nice since I'm building my collection.

The rest of these were one offs from different places. Here we have another reusable shopping bag, 2 pairs of ear buds, an arm band for your phone and a Duke Cancer drawstring bag. The ear buds are new this year. I haven't seen those before. I like having junky ones at work for when I want to keep people from asking me questions. No, no, I love all of the questions, I really do.

Moving on, we have a bag of dog treats that Cleo already enjoyed, a bandage holder, a Warrior bandanna which I think would look fabulous on Cleo if she would wear it and a WRAL towel. There was an on-air guy passing out the towels and people wanted him to sign them. WFH? A towel signed by the weather guy will never increase in value and in the end you just have a dirty towel. I do think this would be a great spin class towel. Nothing worse than a sweaty spin class and no towel.

Then we have ANOTHER reusable bag. Maybe I'll actually put them in my car and take them to Trader Joes with me. One can dream... What else, there's a pen, plus an un-pictured pen, a flat water bottle that I can hook to hiking equipment? and a plastic braided bracelet.

Then  came the food! Plenty of bottled water, a grape drink from Whole Foods, apple, banana and a fruit bar. Oh, and the pen I forgot to photograph above.

Overall, a pretty impressive haul! It's all still in the bag which is now sitting on the bakers rack in my kitchen. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it all, but yay swag!

What's your favorite piece of race swag?

No cookie so how about a koozie?

Each of my blogs have had some sort of cookie reference and 6 posts in, not a dang cookie here. I wanted to share one of my current favorites. It's no secret that I LOVE Trader Joe's and the plethora of delights in their stores. This is one of my all time favorites.

So light, summery and delicious and only 110 calories for 4 of them. I cry happy tears when I eat them.

Another reason I cry happy tears? This:

That would be candied Snickers bacon. Candied bacon with caramel and chocolate drizzle, topped with peanuts. I took a little bite and saved the rest for Kevin. He was a huge fan. It was seriously delicious. There's a little cafe around the corner from my work where I go sometimes to get breakfast. He's had candied bacon in the past and this day, candied snickers bacon. I couldn't resist.

What else, Weds I skipped the gym in exchange for a little pool time. This past weekend we took a day trip to the beach and I decided not to bring a swim suit. I couldn't remember if there would be any place to change and didn't want to strip down in a rank gas station bathroom. In theory a good idea. The only downside? The unfortunate farmers tan I'm currently sporting,  so off to the pool I go to hopefully catch the last hour of sun.

I still have the farmer's tan but enjoyed a relaxing hour pool side before heading home.

So I grew up in the northern part of WV, fairly close to Pittsburgh and was pretty unfamiliar with koozies for the majority of my life. Sure we drank... beverages in cans... but I get down to NC and EVERYONE uses koozies. Go to the beach, koozies. poolside? koozies. Picnic? more koozies. Is it just a way to hide your beer while you watch the kids play at the pool? Because everyone at my community pool has a can of Bud Light in a koozie.

If I think about it, I guess we just let the can sweat on out hands and wiped the wet on our shorts. Seriously though, have people been using koozies for 30 years and I just didn't know or is this a relatively new thing?

This time last year I had 0 koozies and several friends who were a little horrified by that fact. Thankfully my Kappa Delta Alumnae Chapter had a fundraiser and sold koozies. I went from 0 to 2 koozies. Then I got one at the beach, 2 more at a race and the next thing I know, I have a drawer full of koozies. I guess this is how it happens. #ididntchoosethekoozielifeitchoseme
